The Tuxedo, The Internet and the Tailor Mr Carl Armstrong, a US industrialist based in Rome needed to look especially smart for the most important business meeting of his career. He was scheduled to meet with and have dinner with the United States Ambassador to Italy. The outcome of the meeting had the potential markedly to affect his future both personally and business wise. He needed to dress the part. A well-cut and expertly fitted tuxedo would be just the thing to make a good impression. He looked around in Rome and tried several friendly and business contacts. Eventually, just when he was beginning to panic, someone suggested looking on the Internet for a tailor who could supply the outfit. The friend had had some previously successful dealings with the firm of Charles Gale & Co of Fareham, Hampshire, United Kingdom and he recommended getting in touch with them. But how? The friend thought that Charles Gale might have a web site. The industrialist went on to the Internet to search for it. Using one of the top search engines (Google) he entered a keyword phrase (formal wear hire) and there it was! Ranked as Number 1, the Charles Gale web site at www.charlesgale.co.uk. The high ranking impressed him as he knew enough about the internet to understand that such a high ranking on a major search engine comes only from expert handling and top-notch technical skills. Being reassured from the information on the web that the company could provide the garment, Mr Armstrong decided to ask for their help. As time was now short he rang the listed number and explained his predicament. He spoke with Charles Gale, a well-known tailor, the owner of the web site and the business, and asked if they could fit him for tuxedo. “No problem” said Mr Gale except the shop was in England and Mr Armstrong was in Rome! Mr Armstrong faced a problem. Using the Internet he had successfully identified a tailor who could satisfy his need but now he had to get to the point of supply if he wanted to get his hands on a tux. The pictures and information on the Charles Gale web site was of such quality and detail they had convinced Mr Armstrong that his needs would be met if he could just get there. There was nothing else for it! Mr Armstrong suggested to Charles Gale that he would fly to London, hire a car and drive to Fareham to be fitted for and buy a tuxedo. And that is exactly what he did! In one day Mr Armstrong took a ‘red-eye’ flight from Rome to London. He hired a car and using the map, printed out from the web site, he drove to Fareham. During the day he was measured up and fitted with a tuxedo. That afternoon he made his way back to London in time to connect with the return flight to Rome. Charles Gale said that without the impressive and successful web site, designed and managed by Cyber Innovations Limited located in Fort Fareham Business Park, he would not have connected with Mr Armstrong provided that vital tuxedo. |
