This is a very unique and high quality product - hand-made and hand-embroidered velvet slippers or houseshoes. Many of the skills and techniques used to make the slippers today are the same as when the business was founded 130 years ago in 1874. More details here.

Bowhill & Elliott Plain Velvet Albert Slipper

Hard Sole Plain Velvet Albert Slipper
The slippers are lasted by hand with tacks and cement and the sole is cemented.

Upper - 100% cotton velvet, colours - black, brown, navy, green, burgundy.
Lining - Quilted satin, colours - black, red, navy, burgundy, gold.
Sole & Heel - Both hard leather with brass slubs in the heel, which will wear evenly so that they will not mark wooden floors.

Hard Sole Velvet Hand Embroidered Albert Slipper
A variety of designs can be incorporated. All the embroidery is done by hand on to the upper velvet before the slipper is made. Each design is embroidered by hand incorporating gold and silver wire or coloured cotton threads.

Deerskin Soft Sole Mule Slipper
Hand made using the traditional turned construction. The upper and the sole are stiched together inside out. After the cork insole and heel is added the slipper is then turned so that the seam is on the inside.

Upper - Extremely soft deerskin leather, colours - black, tan.
Lining - Soft calf leather lining.
Sole - Black calf suede sole.
Insole & Heel - Rubberised cork made from reclaimed rubber and cork waste.

Deerskin Soft Sole Grecian Slipper

A simple description of the making processes:

	CLICKING (Stage One) - Hand cutting using brassbound patterns The leathers and fabrics that make the slippers are cut by hand using graded brassbound patterns. Each style has a different set of patterns, which are graded to fit each size of "last" in the range.
CLOSING (Stage Two) - Stitching the pieces together to make the "upper" The pieces of leather or fabric are stitched together to form the "upper". "Toe puffs" and "heel stiffeners" are incorporated to enhance the style and shape of the slipper, ensuring that it maintains its shape after lasting and while it is being worn.
	HAND LASTING (Stage Three) - Lasting the uppers using tacks and cement The "insole" is attached to the bottom of the "last" and forms the foundation of the slipper. The "uppers" are laid over and wrapped around the "last" and tacked and cemented to the "insole". After lasting is completed the leather sole and heels are attached and the slipper is almost complete. Finally the inner sock is inserted and the slippers are then ready to be checked and cleaned or polished before they are boxed.
